We’re honored to share that Vilanova Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was named Camarillo’s Business of the Year. This recognition means a lot to our team because it reflects what we work for every day: a clean, welcoming academy where people of all ages can grow.

Even more importantly, this award belongs to our community—our students, families, coaches, and friends who show up and support each other.

Thank You for the Nomination and Recognition

First, thank you to Mike Thomas for nominating us. I’m truly grateful—and honestly, surprised.

In addition, thank you to the West Ventura County Business Alliance for selecting Vilanova BJJ. I’ve always believed our work should be driven by love and service, not the pursuit of awards. However, being recognized for what we’ve built together means more than I can say.

I was especially surprised when Andy Conli reached out to share the news.

The instant Robert began reading the Vilanova BJJ Bio, a flood of memories played like a movie in my mind, leaving me blank. That was when I truly realized what this award meant to me.

From growing up in Brazil, to my childhood, my mom’s illness, my sisters, beginning my Jiu Jitsu training, falling in love with it, moving to the US, getting hurt by someone I looked up to, starting Vilanova BJJ, Vilanova BJJ surviving COVID shutdowns, and now being honored as the best business in Camarillo—each memory was overwhelming. I wasn’t prepared for the rush of emotions.
