Kid's Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Class

(ages 4 to 6)

Our kids Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program is designed for children aged 4 to 6 years old. Our goal is to introduce them to the world of martial arts while teaching important values such as discipline, respect, and focus. Through our program, your child will not only develop a strong foundation in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu techniques but also in values and skills that can be transferred to every aspect of their lives.

  

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a martial art that focuses on self-defense, specifically through grappling techniques. It promotes using physical attributes like strength, coordination, agility, and balance, as well as mental attributes like problem-solving and perseverance. 

Our program emphasizes safety above all else, which is why we focus on teaching techniques that are suitable and safe for young children. Here are some of the techniques and moves we'll cover:

  

1. Basic positions: closed guard, open guard, half guard, side control, mount, and back control.  

2. Escapes: teaching kids how to escape from certain positions in a safe and effective manner. 

3. Takedowns: simple and safe takedowns such as double-legged and single-legged.  

4. Submissions: gentle submissions like the rear naked choke and the armbar, taught with a strong emphasis on proper technique and control.

 

Fun Games and Exercises: 

To keep our classes engaging and fun, we integrate games and exercises that develop the necessary skills for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Some examples include:

  

1. Animal races: various animal-inspired movements (e.g., bear crawls or crab walks) to help children improve coordination and agility.  

2. Balance games: exercises like walking on a balance beam or standing on one leg to help develop balance. 

3. Jiu Jitsu drills: playable drills that reinforce techniques and positions.

 

Lesson Plan Structure: 

Our classes run for 30 minutes, Monday through Thursday at 3:30 pm.

  

1. Warm-up (5 minutes): simple exercises to get the kids moving and warmed up.  

2. Techniques (Mondays & Tuesdays, 15 minutes): practice individual techniques with an emphasis on proper execution.  

3. Drills & Sparring (Wednesdays & Thursdays, 15 minutes): incorporate techniques into drilling exercises and supervised sparring.  

4. Cool down & character building discussion (5 minutes): calm physical activity and reflection on lessons learned in class.

 

Our program aims to provide an engaging, safe, and supportive environment where children can develop a love for martial arts while learning important life skills.
